How long do books check out?
What are the loan periods for Smyrna Library books and materials?
Answer
Generally, Smyrna Library materials check out for three (3) weeks and may be renewed two (2) times. If an item has a hold on it, the item will not renew. Materials are set to auto-renew unless the item is returned or has a hold it.
Loan Periods
- Books: 3 weeks with 2 renewals
- Audiobooks on CD: 3 weeks with 2 renewals
- DVDs (regular and Blu-Ray): 1 week with 2 renewals
- Puzzles: 1 week with 2 renewals
- Baking pans, Smyrna Strong items, and Park Passes: one (1) week with no renewals
- HOOPLA movies & TV shows: 3 days
- HOOPLA music: 1 week
- HOOPLA BingePasses: 1 week
- HOOPLA eBooks, eAudiobooks & eComics: 3 weeks
- LIBBY eBooks: 2 weeks
- LIBBY eAudiobooks: 2 weeks
- LIBBY eMagazines: 2 weeks
Borrowing Limits
- 20 total physical items (books, CDs, book CDs, etc.) per card
- 10 DVDs per card
- 1 puzzle per card
- 1 baking pan per card
- 1 Smyrna Strong item per card
- 1 Music Maker kit per card
- 1 Park Pass per card
- 6 items per month on HOOPLA DIGITAL per card
- 10 items at a time on LIBBY per card
Overdue Fines
- Books, Audiobooks, DVDs, Puzzles, Baking Pans, Smyrna Strong items: $.20 per day
- Park Passes: $1 per day
- Borrowers are blocked from borrowing and using computers if fines exceed $10.
Lost Cards
- $2 replacement fee
Non-Resident Fees
- Individual: $25 (one-year membership) / $50 (two-year membership)
- Family (up to four people): $60 (one-year membership) / $120 (two-year membership)
Holds/Reserves
Cardholders may reserve books in person, by phone or online. Materials on the shelf and materials checked out may be placed on hold.
Are there age limits for cards?
Individuals 16 years old or older may get a card with proper identification. Children under 16 may get cards with the consent of the parent or guardian. The child must be present to obtain the card.
Who is responsible for fines and charges incurred by a child?
The parent or guardian who signed for the child.
Do library cards expire?
A resident’s card expires every two years. A non-resident card expires annually.
