Does Smyrna Library have a genealogy collection?
Answer
Smyrna Public Library offers print resources, microforms, and online databases to aid genealogical research.
PRINT COLLECTION
Smyrna Public Library has a large collection of nearly 5,000 books on Genealogy detailing records from Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Alabama. This collection also has a large amount of military and immigrant records, as well as City Directories from the last forty years. These books are located on the upper level in the Isanhour Room and in the Reference area. Although books may not be checked out, researchers may take notes and make photocopies. Photocopies are $.15 per page for B&W.
MICROFORMS COLLECTION
The microfiche and microfilm collection includes Census records, Garrett's Necrology, and some local newspapers and magazines. Anyone may use the library's excellent microforms reader/printer. Researchers may use it to read, save scanned images, and send printouts to the library's printer. Printouts are $.15 per page for B&W. Bring a flash drive to save scanned images or purchase a flash drive at the front desk for $7.
DATABASES
The library also offers access to three genealogy databases:
MyHeritage Library Edition is available in the library and remotely by logging in with your Smyrna Library card number.
Ancestry.com may be accessed for free from Smyrna Library computers in the library only.
