Can I place a hold on a book?

Can I place holds online?

Answer

If an item in Smyrna Library's physical collection is eligible for holds, you may place a hold one of three ways:

  • Ask a staff member to place the hold for you when you are in the library.
  • Call the Circulation Desk and ask a staff member to place the hold for you: 770-431-2860 x2.
  • Log into your online account and place the hold. See the instructions below.

Accessing Your Patron Account Online to Place Holds:

  1. Visit the Smyrna Library online catalog.
  2. Click on the "Log In" tab in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Enter your library card number and four-digit PIN.
  4. Locate the item in the library catalog that you wish to place on hold.
  5. Click on the orange "Place Hold" button next to the title.

If an item is not eligible for holds (Reference books, for example), the orange "Place Hold" button will not be visible. You will receive an email notification when a holds item becomes available for you to pick up.

Picking Up Items on Hold:

  1. Visit the Holds Shelf against the brick wall in the Adult Fiction area on the first floor.
  2. Materials are arranged by customer's last name. A tag will appear on your item listing the first four letters of your last name and the last four digits of your library card number (SMIT 1234, for example).
  3. Locate your materials, then visit the Self-Check Stations at the Circulation Desk.
  4. Follow the instructions at the desk to check out your materials. If you have any difficulties, please request staff assistance.
