My child is starting to read on his/her own. Do you have books for him/her?

Answer

Smyrna Library has books for every age and reading ability. Library staff are always happy to assist families in finding appropriate reading materials. The following options are available for beginning readers:

  • Picture books - Shelved in alphabetical order by author's last name, the picture books are available in reading levels as early as Pre-K. These fiction books are located in rows of shelving to the right of the Youth Services desk, and call numbers begin with "E."
  • EZ Readers - These fiction and non-fiction books are great for children beginning to read independently and consist mostly of sight words and word families. Books in this section can be as low as beginning kindergarten through beginning of second grade. They are located on a wall-flush shelf to the right of the Youth Services desk, and call numbers begin with "EZ."
  • BOB Books and Scholastic Little Leveled Readers kits - Kits contain small paperback books where each title focuses on a specific sound. The call numbers start with either "BOB" or "E LLR," and the kits are located on a wall-flush shelf beyond the Picture Book collection.
  • Easy Book & Audiobook kits - These kits contain a picture book with an accompanying audio CD of the story. Young readers can read and listen to the story at the same time. Call numbers begin with "EBCD," and the kits are located on a wall-flush shelf beyond the Picture Book collection.
