What is "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten"?
Answer
"1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" is a national initiative to encourage families to read more to their small children. Research shows when parents talk, read, and sing with their babies and toddlers, connections are formed in their brains. These connections build language, literacy, and social-emotional skills at an important time in a young child’s development.
As the name indicates, Smyrna Library is challenging families to read 1,000 books with their children before the first day of Kindergarten. The program is designed to be a fun and easy way to help your child develop pre-reading skills vital to Kindergarten readiness.
How do I get started?
